At this Grandma’s long (we never say old) years, I love that I am able to keep up with the grandchildren and do dancing and moving songs with the grandchildren and be able to teach them body parts at the same time.
My favorite moving song for this purpose is “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.” You can do this with the youngest grandbaby and make them laugh at your antics. You can do this with the toddler and preschooler, going faster and faster each time you repeat the song, until all of you fall down to the floor laughing. If you are not familar with the song, here is a youtube version.
Here are the lyrics that even grandma can memorize:
Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.
Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.
And eyes, and ears, and mouth,
And nose.
Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.
Place both hands on parts of body as they are mentioned. On second time speed up, and get faster with each verse.
My second favorite song for this purpose is “If You Are Happy and You Know It.” The song enables you to choose anything you want to let your face know you are happy. With the older toddler and preschooler, you can let them pick what you are going to do next. If you are not familar with the song, here is a youtube version.
Here are the lyrics:
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands. (clap clap)
If you’re happy and you know it, stomp your feet (stomp stomp)
If you’re happy and you know it, stomp your feet (stomp stomp)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, stomp your feet. (stomp stomp)
If you’re happy and you know it, shout “Hurray!” (hoo-ray!)
If you’re happy and you know it, shout “Hurray!” (hoo-ray!)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, shout “Hurray!” (hoo-ray!)
If you’re happy and you know it, do all three (clap-clap, stomp-stomp, hoo-ray!)
If you’re happy and you know it, do all three (clap-clap, stomp-stomp, hoo-ray!)
If you’re happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it, do all three. (clap-clap, stomp-stomp, hoo-ray!)
