Finding the Best Art for Decorating a Child’s or Any Room and A New Shared Activity for Grandma and Grandchild by Exploring National Geographic Art

It is a real effort to find fabulous wall decor for a baby’s room or child’s room. Yes, we can find great baby art for a nursery, but most of the time what we find does not grow with the child, and it can be costly.

Twitter has now become a source of interesting and unusual ideas for this Grandma. I have to thank my son-in-law again for convincing me I wanted to become part of the Twitter generation. I just read that there are more food tweets during lunch hours than other times. Hmmm. I must pay attention to timing of tweets too.

Looking at the 2015 National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest winners in a tweet, I realized that the National Geographic Art Store might be a perfect source for wall decor for a baby or child’s room, as well as a new source of some interesting shared time between grandma and grandchild. The 2015 winning photographs are worth looking.

This Grandma went on a photographic hunt with National Geographic Art. Putting in key words in the search, I found wonderful options for any themed nursery or child’s room or even a playroom. You can choose from framed print, canvas wrapped art, to wall decals. This Grandma loves the idea of real animals in real backgrounds. Some photographs are in color and others are black and white.

FARM THEME

MOTHER AND BABY ANIMAL OR TWO SMALL ANIMALS

There are many choices that are heartwarming photographs of two baby animals or a mother and baby animal. These are great to look at with a grandchild, and can lead to many stories made up in pretend play.

Two lion cubs snuggle together on the ground, the one on top has its tongue sti cking out. The dark spots on a cub’s coat fade gradually as it grows.

OBJECTS

What was interesting about the choice of National Geographic art photographs is that you can find anything. Just put any object word in the search and you can find a photograph. For example, here are two examples of the word, “bicycle.”

LOCATIONS AROUND THE WORLD

As a grandma, take the grandchild on a journey around the world through National Geographic Art Photographs when you have a few moments to see some of the most beautiful photographs. If we grandmas go on vacation, we can come home and put the location into the search and share our adventures with our grandchildren through amazing photographs on National Geographic Art. As a matter of fact, we adults can decorate with the photographs too! On HGTV, in a redecorating segment, a giant wrapped art canvas of looking upward at trees at sunrise was beautiful in a bedroom.

Being from Florida, this Grandma’s favorite of this theme was palm trees, of course.

Take a National Geographic journey around the world to decorate a child’s room or visit the world through the internet. Most important, we can encourage pretend play with making up stories about what we think is behind the photograph or happening in the photograph. It is a great and unusual activity and leads to much new shared knowledge between grandma and grandchild with

Joy,

Mema
