Ice Cream Bread with Grandchildren

This Grandma is always looking for great and easy recipes to make with grandchildren. On the internet, this Grandma found Ice Cream Bread, a combination of two favorites. See Taste of Home.

As always, Grandma can choose to make it many activities by making a list and going to the supermarket to buy the ingredients with the grandchild, researching on the internet, as well as making the recipe. We used to have encyclopedias for our children. Now all information is on the internet. We Grandmas can appear so wise. Here is long ago people began baking bread from Britannica Kids.

Prehistoric people probably began to bake bread about 10,000 years ago. Later, in ancient Mesopotamia, people used stones to grind grain, and then added water and cooked the mixture over a fire. Archaeologists have found bread in the remains of a village of Swiss lake dwellers who lived about 4,000 years ago.

You can buy aluminum foil disposable small loaf pans and have each grandchild pick his or her favorite ice cream and mix-ins and make their own ice cream bread:

Ice Cream Bread recipe:

Ingredients:

1 cup ice cream (any flavor, add mix-ins if you want!)

small loaf pan (5 3/4″ x 3″ x 2″)

vegetable oil spray to spray pan

3/4 cup self rising flour or make 3/4 cup of dry ingredients with: 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking powder and the rest all purpose flour

1 tablespoon sugar

To do:

1. Have camera ready to take pictures of grandchildren and grandma in this activity.

2. Soften ice cream at room temperature for 30 minutes.

3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray small loaf pan with vegetable oil spray.

4. Mix all dry ingredients with sugar.

5. Add dry ingredients to softened ice cream and mix together. Add mix-ins, such as sprinkles, chocolate chips, etc. and mix.

6. Spoon batter into the pan.

7. Bake 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

Cool for about 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack. Makes six slices.

The grandchildren can taste each other’s ice cream bread and experiment with different tastes and flavors with

Joy,
