The Thursday Sun-Sentinel newspaper in Fort Lauderdale has the food section. This Grandma makes reservations, and is uninterested except for food information related to grandchildren. Those sorts of articles are few and far between. Then on April 24, 2014, there was an article rating fast food chicken nuggets! Clearly, this must be related to children. But, no, the author, Kevin Pang, whose age is in question, says, “Who doesn’t like them? All the pleasures of fried chicken with the boneless finger food-size convenience.” Excuse me, but we are talking about fast food here.
This Grandma immediately called the mother of the two youngest grandchildren, ages three and six. She was hysterically funny. Her first comment was, “Do people who are not parents really eat this stuff?” She agreed with the author that she would rate Chick-fil-A as the best, McDonald’s as second, Wendy’s as third and Burger King’s old chicken nuggets as last. That is interesting. Burger King has recently changed their chicken nuggets and she said they just got better. After thinking about both sets of ratings, I realized, as a grandma whose mouth is usually closer than the garbage, that I have tasted too many fast food chicken nuggets and also agree with Kevin Pang’s ratings. The three extra pounds this Grandma seems to gain each grandchild visit is mostly due to chicken nuggets!
She then went on to say that she chooses the fast food restaurant by where the children will eat the chicken nuggets , not where she likes the food best.* She said she uses fast food chicken nuggets as a special treat when she wants to get the children to do something they do not want to do.
As a working mother, she provides an interesting perspective. She said she wants the children to like Wendy’s the best because that is the only fast food chicken nugget place with a close drive through. After work, with two small children, she would rather order in the car. As a matter of fact, she said when she has had a terrible day at work, the ideal fast food chicken nuggets are those eaten in the car on the way home, and the children are done eating before they get in the door of the house.
Unfortunately, even brothers have different tastes in chicken nuggets. The six year old rates Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets as the best but the three year old rates Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets as the worst. He will not eat those chicken nuggets . The three year old rates Wendy’s as the best but the six year old rates Wendy’s chicken nuggets the worst. Both boys rate McDonald’s chicken nuggets as second and the fries at McDonald’s the best, so she travels a longer distance to the McDonald’s that has a drive through most often. Ah! Fries! She said Wendy’s fries are number two, so Wendy’s is a place she frequents. Because the six year old will not eat Chick-fil-A’s fries and the three year old will not eat Chick-fil-A’s chicken nuggets, and because they want to go to the playground when she is exhausted after work, she does not go there often. You would think the playground would be a draw. It certainly is for this Grandma. She said it would be a draw on a boring Sunday afternoon, but they are closed on Sunday!
When the grandchildren visit, this Grandma always buys the refrigerator fresh Perdue dinosaur whole wheat breaded baked chicken nuggets at Publix. I asked how the grandchildren rate them. She said they LOVE the Perdue chicken nuggets and eat them two or three times a week at home since I found them. She said the best part of eating chicken nuggets at home is that the children do not ask for soda, which they do at a fast food restaurant.
Perdue wins! Grandma finds a winner again!
Then it was on to call the seven and ten year old grandchildren. They spoke for themselves. The ten year old said that Wendy’s had the best chicken nuggets because the place was the cleanest. And this one is the foodie! He said Burger King chicken nuggets are next because they have a kick of spice. See, he is the foodie! He does not like Chick-fil-A or McDonald’s. He said the best French fries are Burger King’s new ones that taste fresher and are soft and he likes soft fries. The ten year old grandson said that Perdue chicken nuggets were the best when cooked right. The seven year old granddaughter said she likes McDonald’s and Wendy’s chicken nuggets better, but she really does not like fast food. She said Wendy’s has the best French fries. She said she really likes chicken tenders at good restaurants the best. Another foodie! She said the Perdue chicken nuggets are as good as McDonald’s and Wendy’s. Remember, she really does not like fast food.
The mother of my younger grandchildren summed up why Perdue chicken nuggets are the best. Perdue is healthier and cheaper than eating in a fast food restaurant.
She said a Perdue chicken nuggets dinner takes a total of four minutes to prepare in the microwave. Thirty seconds for the Perdue chicken nuggets and three minutes or so for the 99 cent microwave French fries. She decorates the plate with a smiley face in ketchup, adds some fruit and she is done. For the six year old, she now writes his name in ketchup instead. But then she has to think about what dinner will be for the parents! Sorry, Kevin Pang, whatever the rating you may give the fast food chicken nuggets, they are not on the parents’ list of favorite foods.
Perdue refrigerator fresh dinosaur whole wheat breaded baked chicken nuggets are the chicken nuggets of choice at this Grandma’s house. Try them. You r grandchildren will love them. They are grandchildren recommended.
Perdue is going to love this Grandma.
Joy,
Mema
*She likes the chicken nuggets at Chick-fil-A the best, McDonald’s second, at Burger King she likes the hamburgers best, and at Wendy’s she likes that there are more healthy alternatives for her, if you can call any fast food healthy. This Grandma agrees.
