This past week Grandpa and I visited the grandchildren before they left for sleep away camp. Their parents have become obsessed with healthy eating. This is not a bad thing, other than the purging of all chocolate and candy from their home. Fortunately, the parents of our grandchildren do not realize there is a secret stash of my signature candy, mini bags of M & Ms.*
However, they are just not enough chocolate for me. I searched everywhere for chocolate, and found the parents’ secret stash in the freezer– frozen Girl Scout Chocolate Mint Cookies. Now, with Pillsbury and the Girl Scouts teaming up to give us mixes of our favorite Girl Scout cookies, I can use the knowledge of the stash to break their barrier of sweets! Or, better yet, not tell them about the new mixes.
Go to Pillsbury Baking website.
First, and everyone’s favorite, there is Girl Scouts® Thin Mints® Brownie Mix. What I love about this mix is that it makes 12 brownies with a reasonable calorie count of 130 calories for each brownie. There is also Girl Scouts® Thin Mints® Cupcake Mix, and a cupcake is also 130 calories.
Second, they have given us Samoas in another form too. There is Girl Scouts® Caramel & Coconut Blondie Mix, at 140 calories each and Girl Scouts® Caramel & Coconut Cupcake Mix with 125 calories per cupcake.
This Grandma would never look at calories or talk about calories before when spoiling grandchildren, but for parents who are becoming compulsive about sweets. This is still a sweet deal for grandmas, but not so much for parents.
Looking for stores that carry the new products on the Pillsbury website, I saw a category for sugar free and gluten free Pillsbury products. The list of recipes is huge. This link I need for Grandpa and me, not the grandchildren!
I do not know what is happening to me. I must keep repeating: “The parents’ responsibility is not my concern.” I think this Grandma must just go out and buy one of each of the new Pillsbury Girl Scout products and test them before the grandchildren come back from camp.
. . and add an additional mile of exercise for each brownie or cupcake in the meantime.
Joy,
Mema
*Remember to think of and bring to all grandchildren visits a candy that will be grandma’s signature candy. Because I am apt to forget, a keep a secret stash at each parent’s home, so I will never be without my signature candy to give to grandchildren.
