The Best Frozen Desserts for Grandchildren For Summer to Make or Pop Out of the Freezer

This Grandma makes reservations. When Real Simple staffers sampled more than 120 bars, sandwiches, and ice pops and came up with the six best, I paid attention. However, they were adults tasting for adults. What I liked was that they concentrated on organic. Here is Grandma’s top picks of the six for grandchildren:

Grandchildren love ice pops, and this Grandma tries to buy whole fruit ice pops. I always buy Edy’s and was happy to see it one of the winners. Recommended among the top six are:

“Best Fruit Bars, Mixed Box: Dreyer’s/Edy’s Outshine Fruit Bars in Cherry, Tangerine, and Grape. Have a crowd to please? Grab this assortment. Iconic red, orange, and purple pops taste like freshly squeezed juice, not sugar and food coloring. To Buy: $4.40 for 12 bars, at supermarkets.”

Best Fruit Bar: “365 Everyday Value Strawberry Frozen Fruit Bars. No wonder these bargain bars juiced their rivals-they’re fresh, jammy, and loaded with real bits of strawberry. The lime, coconut, and mango flavors were hits, too. To buy: $2.70 for 4 bars, Whole Foods Markets.”

Grandchildren love ice cream sandwiches. I was very interested in Real Simple’s best:

“Best Sandwich: Julie’s Organic Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwiches. A childhood favorite just got better. Sink your teeth into rich vanilla ice cream and cakey chocolate cookies. Bonus: an all-organic ingredient list, with no synthetic fillers or stabilizers. To buy: $5.50 for 6 sandwiches, at supermarkets.”

Yes, we can expand our grandchildren’s horizons by introducing some of the other best from Real Simple.

However, this Grandma is into giving the grandchildren what they want and letting the parents do the parenting work. For those grandmas who like to make their own or to make homemade ice pops with grandchildren, this Grandma loves Oprah’s recommendation for BPA-free silicone molds to freeze fresh juice, fruit purees, or yogurt. Pour them into the mold, add the drip guard sticks and freeze. Easy and fun.

Williams Sonoma has Zoku Polar Pop Molds, set of six, recommended by Oprah.

Williams Sonoma also has Zoku fish shaped pop Molds.

Whether we feel like making our own or just popping a pop out of the freezer, think organic.

Joy,

Mema
