Twitter has really caught my interest. Getting interesting information in snipits is now in with this Grandma. I found the CNN post about the top ten places with the longest life expectancy at birth fascinating. You can find it and beautiful photographs at CNN.com.
Australia is number 10 at 82.07 years.
Guernsey is number 9 at 82.39 years.
Switzerland is number 8 at 82.39 years.
Andorra is number 7 at 82.65 years.
Hong Kong is number 6 at 82.78 years.
San Marino is number 5 at 83.18 years.
Singapore is number 4 at 84.38 years.
Japan is number 3 at 84.46 years.
Macau is number 2 at 84.48 years.
Monaco is number 1 at 89.57 years.
This Grandma did not know where San Marino was and was surprised to learn at Wikipedia that San Marino “is an enclaved microstate surrounded by Italy, situated on the Italian Peninsula on the north-eastern side of the Apennine Mountains. Its size is just over 61 km2 (24 sq mi) with an estimated population of about 32,000 with its capital being the City of San Marino and its largest city being Dogana. San Marino has the smallest population of all the members of the Council of Europe. San Marino claims to be the oldest surviving sovereign state and constitutional republic in the world.”
If you are interested in a list of all countries, you can find it here.
So, four of the ten are in Europe. Five of the ten are in Asia. Four of the ten are in the mountains. Four of the ten are islands. Some are urban and some are rural. Grandpa and I have visited six of the ten. None of the ten rank as a place where we would like to live our entire lives.
The United States is number 34 at age 79. All the numbers combine men and women. The age is 81 for women in the United States.
God Bless America! If living in the best country in the world means sacrificing a few years, it is worth it to this Grandma.
Joy,
Mema
