We grandmas are always looking for unique gifts for our grandchildren and unique decor for their rooms. I have written about books on artists, and have a special place in my heart for all things modern. Our home contains so much mid century modern furniture and accessories that our grandchildren have learned to appreciate. Now we have the opportunity to have them appreciate modern art in their own rooms available on modern art museum on line stores, and more.
Recently in the Sun Sentinel, March 13, 201, “The Goods,” by Kt Hawbaker, introduced me to Chicago’s modern art museum on line store with a Calder mobile, and lunar light show, sold out, and Los Angeles modern art museum on line store with Keith Haring book, “I wish I didn’t Have to Sleep,” for age 3 and up, which includes his art in storybook form.
I have always subscribed to New York’s Museum of Modern Art on line store and love getting notices of sales and specials and now I am subscribing to emails from Chicago and Los Angeles. The article did include Eames’s yellow elephant, “which was initially made for Charles’ 14-year-old daughter, Lucia. The piece was another way of presenting the new method of three-dimensional molding of plywood,” according to the description on MOMA’s website.
There are special toys and items for babies and children that are unique to each museum on line store. Even if we do not buy, it is interesting to view available items. See all 35 baby items at the Museum of Modern Art on line store.
Here are some of my personal favorites from the three highlighted modern art museums.
New York Museum of Modern Art Pet Tails Book, described as
“A mystery tale about tails: the Pet Tails book teaches tots to identify their favorite pets. The

And for older grandchildren, Roy Lichtenstein: Comics File Folders, described as “a trio of A4-sized file folders with index tabs keeps documents safely stored and organized. The set includes imagery from three comic-book inspired works by Roy Lichtenstein that are in MoMA’s collection: Explosion from Portfolio 9, 1967; Finger Pointing from the portfolio The New York Collection from Stockholm, 1973; and Sweet Dreams, Baby! from 11 Pop Artists, Volume III, 1965 (published 1966).”

I love the Chicago Modern Art Museum on line store which has great onesies, included among toys and books and decor.. My favorite onesie is “the future is me.”
So kitschy is the “false teether,” described as “made of soft silicone and keeps baby happy while looking ridiculously adorable, or at least a bit like a grandparent. Teething is hard, and that’s the tooth! For infants 3 months and up. “
In addition to the Luner Light Ball, their decor includes mobiles and unique objects.
Their stuffed animals and blocks will make unique gifts.
Los Angeles Modern Art Museum
Their creativity link brings you to unique coloring books and art projects.
In their kids’ books section, they have books about every modern artist. Bring one for each visit present and share these with the grandchildren.
Yes, this Grandma did send gifts from the Chicago Modern Art Museum to the two newest baby boy grandchildren. I could not resist.
